10,000 Hours – Helping Not for Profits thrive in the Digital Age
As the world becomes more connected through digital means, Canadians are upskilling to meet private sector demand. As this trend continues, Canadian charities & non-profits, who are often resource strapped, need access to this same talent to advance and thrive in the digital age. The 10,000 Hours platform connects Canadian charities & non-profits with skilled volunteer professionals. In a nutshell, the 10,000 Hours team will partner with a charity or non-profit to identify areas of need, and then put together a team of skilled volunteers to tackle the project at no cost. The projects can be anything big or small: digital donor wall, customer journey mapping, web development / design, social media plan, product management, or just simpler tasks like digging up useful data or content from the internet. 10,000 Hours was launched in January 2021 and since then, has invested over 600 hours across 24 projects and partnered with non-profits such as Pathways to Education, Shelter Movers, and Tim Hortons Foundation Camps.
Projects are posted every other month and volunteers browse and pick-up or join projects based on their skills. Volunteers are primarily hands-on workers from the Canadian tech industry who devote their time and skills towards 10,000 Hours volunteering.
